From Chiayi, take the local train up to Alishan. A must for train lovers! You might even ride a special eco-themed sightseeing train as it climbs over 2,000 meters into the mountains.

As you gaze out the window, you will notice the landscape gradually changing, with the vegetation transforming as you ascend. Along the way, you will encounter the unique Hinoki trees, a species found only in Taiwan, Japan, and South America.
