The unexpected beginning
In 2017, Steven accepted an opportunity for an internship as a local reporter in Gotemba, a small town in Japan he had never heard of. The people’s kindness and hospitality won him over, and he wanted others to experience the magic he had found.
He started capturing his journey through unpolished videos, sharing Gotemba’s beauty with the world. Social media wasn’t as powerful back then, but this small act planted the seed for his passion in tourism.
The seed begins to grow
He became a tour guide as a freelancer for Japanese in Taipei, Realized that travel isn’t just about places; it’s about people. Creating personal connections and ensuring travelers truly enjoy their journey became my purpose.
A NEW CHAPTER
In 2019, moving to the Netherlands for his master’s in tourism management was another leap. Everything from culture to education was unfamiliar.
After graduation, it was a COVID period. He took detours for his career, Tech industry, but none felt right.
“My heart was still with travel.”
FINDING MY WAY BACK
When COVID ended, he found his way back into tourism as a Japan specialist. He ensured Dutch travelers had seamless and unforgettable experiences in Japan. Moving to a luxury travel company later gave his insight into curating high-end, exclusive journeys.
“But one question kept me wondering: why is Japan a top travel destination while Taiwan remains underrated?”

Carrying his experiences from Japan, Taiwan, and the Netherlands, and the courage to turn vision into reality. Steven founded Kunji Travel.
